Software Installation
Obtaining the software:
The full installation of the software can be obtained from the following Web site:
http://www.therastershop.com/kids/download.aspx
This Microsoft installer package contains the kIDs program and the fingerprint scanner driver that is needed to run the kIDs
program. Please note that you should not load any Windows drivers for the fingerprint scanner that came with the scanner, only use
the ones with the kIDs program.
Prerequisites for the software:
Microsoft Dot Net Framework:
The kIDs program was designed for and requires the Microsoft Dot Net (.NET) Framework to be installed for it to
run against. Please be aware that Windows Vista has this required Framework installed as part of the Operating System, thus there is no
need to install it separately. It is best to use the Microsoft Windows Update to install this package as it takes care of the downloading
and installation for you.
Start > All Programs > Windows Update
kIDs will work with either Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 but there will be at some point a release
of the kIDs program where we will compile to the .NET 3.0 Framework, so it’s best to do it now.
Camera Driver:
The final prerequisite is that the camera’s device drivers have been loaded before you run the kIDs
program. Not that it will create any problem for the program; it’s just that you will have a red light that you will have to
deal with. To load the device driver for the camera you should follow the documentation that came with the camera. Normally
this requires the installation of an application from the CD that came with the camera before plugging in the camera.
If you have a Logitech Orbits camera that came with the Grand Lodge of Colorado kit you will find the device driver for the
camera for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista at the following Web site:
Windows 2000 or Windows XP driver:
http://www.therastershop.com/kids/update/orbitsCameraDriver.exe
Windows Vista 32bit driver:
