Print Screen

This is the final step in the kIDs program and once complete it will guide you back to the main image collection screen.

This section has been designed to be flexible and thus meet the needs of many situations. When you have collected all the images that you need, they are stored until you return from this screen to the main screen or you exit the program.

Thus you could print some of the pages in English and the rest in Spanish and then create a CD in English and another in French!

There are situations where one parent may be more comfortable in Spanish and the child may prefer English, so why not print one complete set in Spanish and another set in English?

Printing Section:

This section displays the printer name selected for the printed output. Please note, this can only be changed at the settings screen.

The ‘Number of Copies’ selection allows a user to print more than one copy of the print set, but be aware that the program has to render each print set separately and this takes time especially on slower computers.

The print output resolution is set via the settings of ‘High, Medium, Low and Draft’. These are Microsoft interface names for the class of printing. Please be aware that all print drivers have to understand these four modes, but there may not be any difference in the output.

What! I hear you saying! Well let’s say your printer is a 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (DPI) printer, it would be fair to expect that the printers driver would “possibly” support modes of say 600 x 600 dpi and 300 x 300 dpi output. Thus when you select High you “should” get the 1200 x 1200 dpi output, but in this case when would the 600 x 600 dpi kick-in? Well your guess is as good as mine!

In testing we found that most print drivers assigned the lowest print quality to the Draft mode. In our case 300 x 300 dpi, then the 600 x 600 dpi was set to the Low mode and Medium and High modes were the 1200 x 1200 dpi.

So don’t be surprised if you lower the quality and find no difference in the output quality because there may be none!

Finally on this issue, we have seen may color print drivers that will not print in color at their highest quality and this is not a problem with the kIDs program but with the print driver.

The green check mark will start the render and printing of the pages. Once the rendering is finished you will see a quick little dialog appear with the number of pages to be printed and your printer should spring into life at this point. The ‘Print Language’ will set the language for the printed output:

United States of America – English

United Kingdom – English

Canadian – French

Mexican - Spanish

The ‘Print Mode’ will set the pages to collected to make the print set. Please note, that it is part of the programs function, that with no modes selected and pressing the green check mark will print the personal safety information sheet.

This is the main certificate and contains the image of the child and the collected fingerprints. It has space for the parent to fill out the personal information on the child.

This is the ID style card in vertical and horizontal style, and will print the child’s image on the front along with either the index or thumb prints, and the images of the parents on the back if collected.

This is the ID style card in vertical and horizontal style, and will print the main image on the front along with either the index of thumb prints. But on the back it will print the organizational information that was entered on the settings screen.

This is the personal safety sheet which contains nothing but information.

CD / DVD record Section:

To master or burn a CD or DVD select the ‘CD Language,’ press on the gold CD and follow the on screen dialog. Once mastered or burnt the CD or DVD will be ejected from the recorder.

The image that is recorded to the disk contains all the digital images collected and saved in Microsoft bmp format along with an Adobe pdf file with all the images and text as if you selected all the print modes together.

One hidden function of the CD / DVD record is that you have space on the disk. Why not pass along some information about your organization? Well, if you place your advertising in the following directory c:\Program Files\The Raster Shop, LLC\kids\cd\information it will be copied on to any disk that is mastered or burnt as part of the kIDs program.

Please remember that if you use this function be careful to store the information in a manner that the person looking at it later can view, like is it safe to assume that the end user has Microsoft Office? Just something to think about, also keep the file size down as mastering or burning the CD / DVD will take longer the more it has to write. You have been warned!

The ‘CD Language’ will set the language for the pdf output to be mastered or burnt on the CD / DVD:

United States of America – English

United Kingdom – English

Canadian – French

Mexican - Spanish

Counters and Return to Main Screen:

The program will keep track on the total number of kIDs ID’s that have been accomplished since the program was installed. Now if this is important to you, you could edit the kids.xml file and add the totals from other versions.

The left green arrow will delete all images obtained, reset all the internal counters and return you to the main screen ready for the next collection process.

Program Exit:

Click on the white x in the red button placed in the title bar of the kIDs application. This action will destroy any images that may be left over and save the config.xml and kids.xml files ready for the next running of the program.
