Parts Needed

Computer:

2Ghz, 512Mb Ram, 20Gb Hard Disk, 64Mb Video Ram with 1024 x 768 pixel 24bit RGB display, with three free USB 2.0 ports (one for the printer, one for the fingerprint scanner and the other for the camera.) The computer should be running Windows 2000 SP4, or Windows XP (Home or Professional) 32bit, or Windows Vista (Home or Business) 32bit with a Windows Experience Index score of 2.1 or better.

Please note that these are suggestions but they should be looked at as minimums. The main problem is printing speed which is all CPU clock cycles, so skimping on the CPU speed will have a major impact on the throughput of the system.

Fingerprint Scanner:

Currently we only support the Digital Persona U are U 4000B and the Microsoft fingerprint scanner. We could support others if needed, but these are by far the two most common fingerprint scanners on the market today.

The Microsoft fingerprint scanner can be obtained from just about any Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry’s or an office supply store, but the Digital Persona U are U 4000B scanner can be obtained from the following Web sites:

Camera:

The program or application is set up to receive an image of 640 x 480 pixels in 24 bit color, thus you need to make sure that whatever camera you select has the same aspect ratio, e.g. 1280 x 960 would be fine as it is still in the same aspect ratio.

We have tested several Logitech and Microsoft cameras and had no problems but some are a lot better than others! When dealing with small kids, it is very useful to have a camera that can Pan and Tilt. Both of these brands you can buy at just about any Best Buy, CompUSA, Fry’s or an office supply store. Orbits is the brand name for Logitech for cameras that have Pan, Tilt, Zoom and Microphone, and VX-3000 or VX-6000 is the brand for Microsoft that have Pan, Tilt , Zoom and Microphone.

Printer:

For speed you need a Color Laser printer with either a USB 2.0 or network interface, but the program will render the images in a way that makes them look good on a black and white laser printer. But please don’t, use Inkjet technology printers. They take too long to print and the image just flakes off the paper once it’s folded.
